March 6, 2013 Another 16% of workforce to go.

8 January 2013  Airline has to let 800 employees go, may escalate to as many as 1,800. Airline has been in financial troubles for several years. Hate to say it, but, protect yourself. This airline may not last much longer. Don't get caught in a strike. Your hard earned money does'nt warrant this unrest. That will come. Announced this week will stop routes to Dhaka, Kathmandu and Colombo.

 136 Gulf Air employees  reinstated today. These workers were fired because they took part in a general strike last March. Strike was in support of Tunisian and Egyptian workers.

1/15/10 Gulf Air cutting back one precious slot at Heathrow airport,  daily from UK in the evening.  Hoping to attract more tourist instead of the usual business class. Will promote tourism more ie:- Bahrain Airshow, V Supercar races and Grand Prix in March. Gulf Air had an operating loss of £319 million for 2009. With these improvements Gulf Air hopes to turn airline around by 2012.

11/30/09 Employees may strike December, in protest over the company's 'hard-line policies' Gulf Air employees threaten strike.

11/25/09  Airline announced a five year reconstruction program.  1,160 Job cuts, aircraft sales and route cuts.  Looking to cut $3 billion and plans to become a sustainable business by 2012 and privatize. Workers threaten sit-in or strike and say airline is rich in corruption by management and threaten to go to the media.
The airline, fully-owned by the Bahraini sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, which may sell a minimum of a 25 percent”.

10/15/09 Increase in baggage allowance to all fares. Economy goes from 20kg to 30kg, one of the highest in the world.  Same for first class to 50kg and business 40kg. Gulf Air’s frequent flyer program will have their allowance increased by 20kg, and silver members will receive a generous 15kg increase.

This week Gulf Air received a brand spanking new A320 one of several to come. 

8/8/09  Gulf Air denies they will lay off 272 employees this year and union workers may call a strike over this. Previous shareholders Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Oman gave up their stakes in the ailing carrier.Three chief executives have attempted to turn the company around since 2002.

10/8/08 New route, London Heathrow Airport to Muscat, Oman.  Over nighter, arrives 9:15am.

7/18 /08  Gulf Air has cancelled two of its 25 flights from Bahrain to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday due to maintenance work on the airport runway in Abu Dhabi, it was announced yesterday. gulf-dailynews.com
